Sedition and Nazi Hand Salutes at Ben Gurion University
1. Treason and Nazi Hand Salutes at Ben Gurion University:
Freedom to give Nazi salute
Op-ed: No other state would allow Ben Gurion University-style 'academic freedom'
The Israeli Academy of Sciences and Humanities is raising the banner of academic freedom in vain. There's nothing academia-like about the publication of articles in anti-Semitic, pro-Nazi, Holocaust-denying websites that call for boycotting Israel in universities abroad or for indicting IDF officers and prime ministers on war crime charges.
The heads of Israeli academia, who on Wednesday openly called for safeguarding the independence of Israel's academic institutions, are preaching to others while being guilty themselves. The hornets' nest that has developed at Ben-Gurion University's politics and government department needs to be dried up, as one deals with a festering wound.
If, for example, a senior lecturer (Neve Gordon) in that department dares travel to Palestinian government headquarters in Ramallah (while blatantly violating the law) a day after one of the most terrible massacres we've ever seen here, in order to support Yasser Arafat and pose next to him in a photo where both hold their arms up, does this constitute academic freedom? Is this about the freedom to explore, or about a despicable act by someone who under false pretenses holds on to a job in a publically funded academic institution?
And if this department includes students who take part in an illegal rally at campus following the Turkish flotilla raid, while being photographed (knowingly) giving the Nazi salute, does this have anything to do with academic freedom? Are Nazi salutes a part of the education offered to politics and government students?
I saw the photographs, both of the lecturer alongside Arafat and of the student giving the Nazi salute; I also saw the photo of a female Master's student who climbed up a campus building in order to post a libelous, outrageous, provocative anti-Israeli banner, and I contend that we must put an end to this "academic freedom."
Those interested in this kind of "academic freedom" should go ahead and become lecturers elsewhere. There are many "academic research institutions" abroad funded by anti-Semitic, pro-Nazi, Holocaust-denying elements that would be happy to establish a politics and government department to be run by "refugees" from the Beersheba university.
Jews didn't conquer foreign land
And what about the threats to drive away donors? Jews should not be contributing to an institution that nurtures such deep hatred for the Jewish State and everything represented by it. The Declaration of Independence accurately characterized the nature of the national home created here for the Jewish people's benefit. This is the home which the man the university was named after, David Ben-Gurion, wanted. By the way, he also ordered the conquest among other sites, of Beersheba and Eilat, as well as many parts of the Galilee and Coastal Plain.
I assume that the politics and government department, which has been cultivating an almost obsessive hatred to anything that gives off a scent of Zionism in the view of its "researcher," also preachers a return of land conquered in 1948 to the Arabs. I don't know how these lecturers explain this view, but I'm certain that even members of the National Academy of Science and Humanities do not view these types of lectures as part of academic freedom.
I would also take this opportunity to reexamine how some of the lecturers there secured their academic degrees. That is, who granted them their degrees, and what type of articles prompted this reward.
I do not believe that any other state in the world would allow this kind of "academic freedom" to run wild through its academic institutions. A sense of nationalism is among the inalienable assets of any country; it serves as the glue that unites its citizens. No nation in the world would give it up. Under its flag, a nation's sons head to the battlefield to defend their homeland.
The Jewish argument has added value: The Jews are not in the Land of Israel randomly. Their national movement, Zionism, did not aspire to conquer a foreign country. The whole world recognized this in 1917. I assume that in any other country, those who reject the values entrenched in the state's constitutive documents would be spewed out.

The far Left, including the Marxist Left and the pro-terror Jews for a Second Holocaust, have exercised a monolithic control over Israeli universities since the early 1980s, if not earlier. Suddenly they are being challenged and attacked. From students, from Isracampus and other academics, from the media, from the Knesset, from university governors and donors, from alumni. And they do not like it.
They fear that their utilization of the universities as indoctrination centers into leftist anti-Zionist and Marxist theology will be restricted. They know they cannot succeed if Israeli universities have REAL freedom of inquiry, if Israeli students are exposed to REAL pluralism of ideas. They want to preserve their monopoly of treason in the name of defending academic freedom. They want Israeli universities to serve as bases for attacking Israeli legitimacy and anyone who gets in the way of this holy crusade must be a McCarthyist and an inciter.
A massive coordinated and orchestrated campaign, led in large part by Haaretz, is now striving to silence all critics in Israel of the academic Left. Among the leaders of this Muzzling campaign are the same president of Tel Aviv University who censored his own Board of Governors and denied TAU governors freedom of speech, the same President of Ben Gurion University who fired Prof. Leavitt for questioning PC theology about homosexuals and then defended his firing, the same president of Hebrew University who has taken no action against accused rapist professor Eyal Ben Ari nor has repudiated the "Israeli Soldiers don't Rape Arabs because Jews are Racist" thesis, the President of the University of Haifa who signed off on the holding of a pro-terror rally on campus with the Islamofascist Sheikh Salah and who ordered that Jewish students be forcibly prevented from entering the hall. THESE are the university leftist officials escalating the demands that critics of the academic Left be silenced. All of the above are circling the wagons to defend tenured traitors who call for Israel's annihilation and for world boycotts against Israel. This is academic freedom in their opinion.
The Campaign of Israeli Leftwing Fascism against critics of the Left continues. And Haaretz is leading the Banality of Treason.
In today's new developments, Haaretz discovered that the Im Tirtzu student movement and the Institute for Zionist Strategy (the think tank that composed the study of anti-Israel bias in Israeli sociology departments) get donations from abroad. The students got some money from a Christian Zionist group. The IZF got some support from the Hudson Institute, a very highly respected conservative think tank in the US. Haaretz also discovered that some Im Tirtzu leaders have done internships at the IZF, and that some people from both have had some contact and connection with the Shalem Institute. What, non-leftists talk with one another? Heavens to Mergatroyd! Oh, the humanity!
The Haaretz "report" on all this is conspiratorial and reads as if it were written by Barry Chamish with his space alien box of crayons. You can read the story about the "conspiracy" on one of the most openly treasonous web blogs operating in Israel in English, here: http://coteret.com/2010/08/19/hudson-inst-primary-financial-backer-of-ngo-behind-campaign-to-purge-israeli-universities-of-leftists/
Funny thing how Haaretz and the rest of the Leftist Ascendancy have no objection to dozens of picayune anti-Zionist groups operating in Israel with the funding from anti-Semites and ill-wishers outside Israel seeking Israel's annihilation.

American Ordered to Return to Prison in Peru
By SIMON ROMERO
CARACAS, Venezuela — A Peruvian court said Wednesday that it had struck down a decision granting parole to Lori Berenson, the New Yorker imprisoned in the 1990s on charges of collaborating with a Marxist revolutionary group. The court ordered her to be returned to prison to complete the five years left in her 20-year sentence.
The decision was an abrupt turnabout for Ms. Berenson, 40, who turned herself in after the announcement, according to the United States Embassy in Lima, Peru's capital.
After 14 and a half years in Peruvian prisons, including time spent in isolation in high-altitude Andean facilities, Ms. Berenson was released on parole in May when a judge decided that she had exhibited good behavior during her incarceration.
Ms. Berenson had a son while in prison about a year ago, another factor thought to have weighed on the decision to grant her parole. She and her son, Salvador, who had lived with her in prison since his birth, had recently moved into a rented apartment in Miraflores, an upscale district of Lima where she was planning to live and work as a baker.
But the Peruvian court said it voided her parole because there were discrepancies in the addresses Ms. Berenson had provided for her planned residence.
The Justice Ministry said in a statement that the court's decision reversing her parole could not be appealed.
She was initially arrested in 1995 in Peru while enmeshed with members of the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, a group that became known internationally in 1996 when it raided the Japanese Embassy in Lima and took hundreds of diplomats and senior government officials hostage.
